FAQS
Strapless bras offer invisible support for open, off-shoulder, or asymmetrical necklines, offering a smooth, strap-free look.
Strapless bras have a wider, firmer backband that's snug, secure, and designed to stay in place. SKIMS strapless bra bands also feature a silicone lining or adhesive edges to help prevent slipping. Finally, structural elements like molded cups, side boning, and multiple hook-and-eye closures enhance support and lift. These design details make sure that your strapless bra will stay in place without straps, combining function and appearance.
Some strapless bra styles are also convertible, with removable straps that you can adjust to accommodate halter, racerback, or one-shoulder tops.
If your strapless bra is sliding down, it is likely because the band is too loose, too narrow, or the elastic has worn out. And since the band does most of the no-slip work, that’s a problem.
Some tips to avoid slip:
- Go for a wide band for stronger hold, like the Fits Everbody strapless bra.
- Try sizing down in the band—and up in the cup.
- Look for grip enhancements, like silicone edging, that help bras stay put.
- Keep your skin clean and dry (and avoid wearing lotion where the band sits).
Try a bandeau, which has even compression all the way around.
If it’s digging, the band could be too tight or simply fastened on the wrong hook. Or the boning and underwire are just pressing in the wrong spots.
These issues are easy to fix. First, try loosening the band by trying a different hook setting. If it’s the boning that’s the problem, try our Unlined Strapless Bra with hidden cushioned underwire for more comfort. If you think you might have the wrong size, recheck your bra size using our Bra Calculator.
Of course. With the right design, strapless bras can absolutely work for fuller busts. Certain design aspects make this especially true, like:
- A wide, snug band (often seen in longline styles or corsets), to provide sufficient lift and stability.
- Strong underwire and molded cups for shape, separation, and support—no flattening.
- Grip lining like silicone or rubber edges helps keep everything in place.
- Multiple hook closures for the most hold.
- Padded or fabric-encased boning to add support without digging.
SKIMS prioritizes making inclusive strapless styles, including those specifically for larger busts, with no compromise on lift or comfort.
Strapless bras rely entirely on the band for support, so correct sizing is important. However, your strapless band size may actually be slightly different from your regular bra size.
Here’s how to find your perfect fit:
- Prioritize a snug, secure band. Many fitters recommend sizing down in the band for strapless styles, as long as it still feels comfortable. Extra tightness = extra hold.
- Up the cup. If you size down in the band, go up one cup size to keep the same volume. For example, if you wear a 32B, try a 30C. It’s called sister sizing.
- Check your hook placement. Your bra should fit firmly on the loosest hook when new. That way, you can tighten it as the band stretches over time.
Assess your fit. A quick visit to our Bra Calculator can help dial in your best strapless size, especially if you’re looking to maximize support and comfort.
Strapless Bras use a snug band with a hook-and-eye closure for support. They are great for fuller busts, structured outfits, and all-day wear.
Adhesive Bras stick directly to the skin with no band or straps. They’re best for backless or sheer looks, but they offer less support—they’re good for smaller busts and only short-term use.
