TYPES OF BRAS
From bandeaus to classic T-shirt bras, each bra type is uniquely designed to address your fit and style needs. Explore this bra guide to learn which styles are right for you.
TRIANGLE BRA
WHAT IS A TRIANGLE BRA?
A triangle bra has unlined cups with a triangular plunge cut, designed to gently lift and support the chest.
HOW TO STYLE A TRIANGLE BRA
Triangle bras offer less coverage than a T-shirt bra, high-neck, or demi bra due to their shape—but can be worn when going out, lounging, or anything in between. Try our Fits Everybody triangle bras with tops and dresses that have low-cut necklines or pair with higher necklines to enjoy the comfort and gentle shaping support.
T-SHIRT BRA
WHAT IS A T-SHIRT BRA?
T-shirt bras are an essential, foundational bra. T-shirt bras have underwire and full coverage cups with little-to-no padding, giving a comfortable fit for any basic top.
HOW TO STYLE A T-SHIRT BRA
T-shirt bras are super versatile, so they go well under your everyday outfits. Pair T-shirt bras with your favorite cotton tee or boyfriend fit long sleeve, and with high-waisted shorts for full coverage comfort and support.
PLUNGE BRA
WHAT IS A PLUNGE BRA?
Plunge bras do just as their name describes, thanks to the cups that plunge in a deep v-neckline. Like a T-shirt bra, plunge bras give you basic lift with almost no padding in the cups. Plunge bras offer medium coverage.
HOW TO STYLE A PLUNGE BRA
Plunges are perfect for tops and dresses with lower-cut necklines. For a super comfy feel, try the cotton jersey triangle plunge bra paired with the cotton jersey cheeky tanga panty.
SCOOP BRA
WHAT IS A SCOOP BRA?
A scoop bra has a flattering scoop neckline that isn’t quite as low as a plunge, but not as high as a t-shirt bra. Available in bras with underwire or in bralettes without underwire, these bras enhance your natural cleavage.
HOW TO STYLE A SCOOP BRA
With its soft, rounded neckline, a scoop bra is versatile enough to go under your everyday t-shirts or under a low-cut outfit. Pair it with an open button-down, a low-cut cashmere sweater, or a scoop-neck tank like the Cotton Rib Tank.
DEMI BRA
WHAT IS A DEMI BRA?
Demi means “half,” and this silhouette has a flattering half-cup—meaning more coverage than a plunge or scoop bra, and a bit less than a t-shirt bra. SKIMS demi bras are available from push-up style to lightly-lined to unlined. They also come with or without an underwire, so you can truly choose the demi bra style that works best for you. This cut enhances cleavage and looks great under anything in your closet.
HOW TO STYLE A DEMI BRA
Try the Weightless Demi Bra—with its supportive underwire and ultra-airy material —paired with a summer dress or a cozy sweatshirt.
STRAPLESS BRA
WHAT IS A STRAPLESS BRA?
When it’s time for a strapless dress or a tube top, you’ll want a strapless bra that offers support and stability without showing unwanted straps. SKIMS strapless bras are available with underwire or without underwire (bandeau style).
HOW TO STYLE A STRAPLESS BRA
From elegant strapless evening gowns to wedding dresses to fun tube tops, a strapless bra is the best solution when you want to bare your shoulders. You can also layer a bandeau under a jacket or with a hoodie to show a peek of your SKIMS underneath.
BALCONETTE BRA
WHAT IS A BALCONETTE BRA?
Balconette bras are underwire bras with low-cut cups that lift and support. The cups cut straight across in a design that flatters your curves with less coverage.
HOW TO STYLE A BALCONETTE BRA
Balconette bras are designed with a straight neckline. When you want to show a bit of bust with a flattering silhouette, go with a balconette bra. Style with square-neck dresses, button-down dress shirts, or any outfit that makes you feel your best.
NURSING BRA
WHAT IS A NURSING BRA?
Designed to provide additional support and comfort during and after pregnancy, a nursing bra has flaps that fold down for convenient nursing—without needing to take off your bra. Just unclip the top layer for easy access for your baby.
HOW TO STYLE A NURSING BRA
Style nursing bras with any tops that unzip or unbutton from the top so that you can nurse without needing to lift up your shirt entirely. Nursing tops are also helpful because they have panels or clip-open layers that make nursing convenient and easy.
BRA MEASUREMENT GUIDE
Even the best, most luxe bra can feel uncomfortable if it doesn’t fit right. Understanding how to measure your chest will help you nail down the perfect bra size for you. Never settle for the wrong fit!
To find the right fit, follow these steps or reference the bra fitting guide on our Bra Size Guide:
Find your band size:
Find your most accurate measurement by wearing a wired, non-padded bra. Snugly place the measuring tape around your back and directly under your bust, where the band of your bra sits. Make sure the measuring tape is parallel to the floor. If someone else is measuring you, keep your arms by your side. Exhale, pull the measuring tape snug, and record your measurement.
Find your bust size:
With your elbows down, place measuring tape across your back at band level, under each arm, and around the fullest part of your bust. Make sure the measuring tape is parallel to the floor. If someone else is measuring you, keep your arms by your side. Lightly pull the tape, breathe in and out, and record your measurement.
Determine your cup size:
Now using your band and bust measurements, find your size on the SKIMS bra size chart.
