Whether or not you wear a bra with your tank top is up to your preference. Some people prefer to go braless, but you can definitely wear a bra with a tank top, preferably one that doesn’t show or peek through.
To determine which bra to wear, that will depend on the tank’s neckline and straps. For camis with thin straps or halter tops, head to our strapless bras. For tanks that have wider coverage over the shoulder and wider necks, our scoop bras will hide behind that scooping neckline while enhancing your natural cleavage. For square neck or lower neck tanks, try a balconette bra, which which sits lower on the bust while still providing full cleavage and lift. And for any tanks with plunging necklines, our plunge bras are designed to hide behind the scenes with an extra deep V.
Speaking of peeking through—sometimes we’re wearing a tank because it’s the best way to almost bare all. So we made a push-up nipple bra to really accentuate that bust. Feeling even bolder? Our new pierced-nipple push-up bra promises to show through.
Wearing a tank top underneath a tee can create a cute layered look. Our sheer styles are made to layer, so you can show off your tank while still having the coverage of a tee or long-sleeved tee.
But more than cute, wearing tank tops under tees or other shirts can also be functional. A subtle tank can help protect the outer layer garment from sweat, it can add a warm inner layer under a sweatshirt, sweater, or long-sleeved top, or worn as a shell under a cardigan or blazer. Or, for those who don’t want to bare too much, a tank can provide extra coverage so your bra doesn't show through.
First, they’re a go-to starting layer for button-down cardigans, blazers, and zip-up hoodies. On their own, they’re easy to pair with all styles of pants, shorts, and skirts. Tanks help accentuate your shape and create contrast when worn with oversized jeans, or they help keep a sleek look when worn with fitted pants and slimming high-waisted trousers. Tank tops can also look comfortable and athletic when worn with sweatpants. For summer days or vacation outings, tanks with shorts are the perfect warm-weather combo. Lastly, they look extra chic with skirts, from maxi to midi to mini.
At home, SKIMS tanks look casual but put-together when styled with matching bottoms or boxers—and sexy when worn with nothing but your underwear.
A cropped tank can be styled multiple ways. It can be worn to the gym for any kind of workout, or layered under a sheer fabric tee for a bit more coverage when going out. Or go ‘90s and style your cropped tank with low-waisted pants to bare your midriff, or with high-waisted pants to show off your curves. Cropped tanks are also a great cover-up for the beach, worn over your swimsuit with a flirty sarong.
Tank tops come in a variety of fits and silhouettes, and the choice is up to you, based on the look and feel you’re aiming for.
Feeling a relaxed weekend of bingeing a new show? A classic soft-lounge tank is super stretchy, while still skimming your silhouette. If you’re in an even looser, oversized mood, our v-neck tank is designed to be flowy while still flattering.
To fit and flatter, the milky sheer tank and cropped tube top are extra body-hugging. Or, for something in between that can be extra versatile, the mock neck tank and the Fits Everybody cami are loose for lounging but fitted for wearing under blazers or with skirts and trousers.
